New Studio!

New Spare Room Studio!

Well I finally cleared everything out of the Lower Street studio and managed to get rid of the large pieces of furniture that were never going to fit into the studio at home! Glass & mirror cocktail cabinet with sliding doors & orange & gold flower details.Shame I didn’t have room for the lovely cocktail cabinet- still it went to a good home! It served me very well too.

At least in the new studio everything is very close to hand! My bank balance is already looking healthier too!

Craft Classes

My craft classes for adults on a Wednesday night are still runnin20161116_133650g and the Quaker Meeting House is a snug, warm venue where there is decent parking too. We’re getting Christmassy (who isn’t?!) and these are some of our current projects.. Crocheted gingerbread men

I may use the gingerbread men as gift decorations rather than putting them on the tree.

Seaside Fun

Sunny Whitstable Fun

I had a lovely few days away in Whitstable over the half term break and the weather was beautiful and sunny. You can tell by the sunset aver the beach..Sunset over Whitstable with rays of light flooding through the clouds.I did lots of painting and decorating and had lots of trips to the rubbish tip too, so there was a bit of work accomplished as well as a bit of sight seeing.

I caught the bus into Canterbury for a break and saw the amazing Grayson Perry exhibition The Vanity of Small Differences at The Beany Gallery. Stunning pieces of work and so intricate. It’s on until the 4th of December I think.

I did a little bit of my Frida’s Flowers crochet project and re watched some classic DVDs when it got too gloomy to paint!

Very bright orange sunset over Whitstable beach. As the sun sets on another half term holiday I’m getting ready to get back to work. Planned activities, sorted the staff rota etc.

I’ve also done a bit more to the new ‘studio’ at home and almost finished decanting my craft things into the spare room with the help of Al. I think it’s mostly going to fit apart from my vintage and retro items which are going to have to lodge in various sheds in the local area!

Craft classes for adults are starting this week at a new location- the Quaker Meeting House in Stansted. The old crew will be there and we welcome newbies too!

New Classes!

New craft Classes for Adults

See my Classes page for more details and see you there!

Back To Reality!

Back from holidays- back to reality!

Got back from a short break in beautiful Portugal the other day and it’s definitely back to reality! Especially with the temperature- brrr! Guess I’ll have to really pack away my Summer clothes now!

Spent most of the holiday eating, drinking and lazing around- just what I needed! I did find a good craft shop though and bought some yarn which I used to make a shell necklace and got some Portuguese fabric too. White fabric with Portuguese patterned fish motifs.Photo of a tree with crocheted sea themed elements around the trunk. There was a little street that had a different crochet theme around every tree- cute! Very nice to have a yummy custard tart and coffee under and admire the handy work!

We popped to Faro by bus too and had an amble around the old port which was full of cobbled streets and fancy buildings. Brooch with a textile mini picture in the middle & black, red & yellow crochet edging.Came across a really interesting shop Sardinha De Papel where the crafts on sale were mainly up-cycled and really unusual. I purchased a great brooch ready to pin on my Autumn jacket. Even the bag to take it home was made from a recycled coffee sachet. I fell in love with a bright plastic house money box but sadly it wasn’t for sale.. Here’s a photo of the one that got away!  Neon pink, green & yellow plastic money box in the shape of a house.

Back in the U.K. I’m getting ready to close up the studio. We’ve already started to sort out the spare room which is going to re transform itself into a new work space. One which will be more manageable with my other work commitments.

I’ve started to photograph some of the pieces of furniture which I’ll no longer have space for and will appear on Ebay shortly. I’ll make up a little catalogue and post it on my site soon. Here’s a little taster…

Changes Afoot!

Changes to Classes and Studio

There are changes afoot to classes at Tuftydawn Designs!

Due to other work commitments, I’m unfortunately unable to get to the studio as often as I like, so with great sadness I’ve decided to close the studio in a couple of months time. I’m going to go back to running mobile classes and concentrate more on selling items at craft fairs and on the internet.

It’s going to be a feat of engineering getting my craft supplies back into the spare room! Look out for a sale of fabrics and furniture on local selling sites and Ebay etc!Photo of Tuftydawndesigns Studio in Stansted.

I’ll continue with my craft classes for adults on a Wednesday night but from a different local venue – same fun and friendly company though!

Children’s classes won’t be running as  weekly sessions any more but hopefully I’ll run some seasonal workshops in the near future. Thanks to all those who’ve attended my classes it’s been great fun! I’ll still be available for craft parties and private arty crafty classes too!

Sizzling Summer!

 Summer holiday fun..

It’s certainly sizzling hot at the moment- I don’t mind if I’m on the beach but being stuck on the M25 isn’t so much fun!!

Have been up to quite at lot recently including spending a few days volunteering at The Horniman Museum as part of my Summer fun.

I was helping in the Hands On Base and engaged with visitors about fossils, hats and carnival masks from around the world and musical instruments. I also explained objects such as a stuffed stoat, lion’s skull and snake vertebrae on the handling trolley.  I’ve never been hypnotised before but I had the opportunity as part of an art project involving objects from the museum’s collection. It was fascinating and very relaxing!

I fitted in a sketch of the Brazilian Favela installation too!

Sketch in ink and colour pencil of the Horniman clock tower and favela installation. Arts & Crafts

During a few trips to London I managed to squeeze in a few Art Gallery visits.

The Wellcome Collection is always worth a visit and really lives up to ‘The free destination for the incurably curious’. I mooched around the States Of Mind exhibition which had a great mix of art, science and history artefacts on view- maybe things to inspire my next piece of sculpture?

Alister and I also caught the Georgia O’Keefe  and Mona Hatoum exhibitions at The Tate Modern. Both very different work and very thought provoking. I especially liked O’Keefe’s early works with beautiful colours and forms and Hatoum’s powerful Undercurrent (red)2008 .

At the Southbank Centre Alister and I built and decorated our own shop as part of a big art project Home Sweet Home. We even got a real key to our shop and built it on a ‘plot’ in London. Great fun!

Other News

In other sizzling Summer news – the retro sale I had was well attended and some money was raised for Dementia U.K. I still have the knitting machine for sale though!!

In my crafty sessions with kids, we had fun making dog planters made from recycled plastic bottles. They were inspired by Saltycanary’s cat planters. Really cute! We covered the planter shapes with a thin paper mache layer then painted them.

Look out for dates of the next lot of crafts classes for children and adults coming soon!

Beside the Seaside!

Walton On The Naze

It was lovely to be beside the seaside at Walton the other weekend- finally Summer is here! It was super to have a paddle, pootle around the shops and eat ice cream. Also enjoyed going on the 2p arcade machines and we got enough tickets to get a Star Wars mug!

Recently in the world of arts and crafts we’ve been up to all sorts. My Kids Crafternoons have finished and here’s a few images of what was made over the holidays. There’s some really lovely pieces of work here and everyone enjoyed themselves.

Vintage Finds & Other News

New StorageIn other news I have some new storage which is much better than keep having to unload about six boxes to get to the bottom one! I was trying to get organised ready for my Retro & Vintage Sale next Saturday..

Metal 1950s Monopoly counters, wooden buildings and dice.

I also finished an audio visual presentation of the sculpture exhibition I had some work in. Hopefully you can click on the link and it will show you a taster of the exhibition..

See you at the sale!
